The song was inspired by Reggae music mostly heard in Latin America and the Caribbean. This version of The Old Copperplate comes from Tony DeMarco’s rendering of it in his fiddle primer, A Trip to Sligo.

The melody for this song is loosely based on the traditional song 'The Water Is Wide'. Except for that one line, all of the lyrics are original. This version of Walsh’s Hornpipe is from Kevin.

Brian wrote this song over the course of several years while living in various countries. The original inspiration came from time spent in bars in New York City during the 1970's.
